About This Service

Eating Disorder & Body Image Therapy

Eating disorders and disordered eating are often about much more than food. The eating disorder most likely began as a method of coping with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or substance abuse.

My approach to treating disordered eating behaviors is to treat the anxiety, depression, trauma, or substance abuse along with addressing the eating disorder symptoms. Considering to give up the primary way of coping with stressors in your life might sound scary. I am here to help you figure out what your values are and support you with aligning behaviors with them, as our values give us a “compass” for how we want to show up in our life.

Treatment is individualized and begins with understanding your unique presentation, and whether I think outpatient therapy may help. I may recommend therapy in conjunction with working with a dietician and/or a physician.

We’ll explore what you think is maintaining the disordered eating patterns. Together, we'll identify realistic goals that you want to work on.

My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and weight-neutral. Drawing from CBT-E (Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT, ACT, motivational interviewing, feminist and Health at Every Size (HAES) principles, therapy may focus on challenging and reframing unhelpful beliefs about food and body image, reducing eating disorder behaviors, building coping skills, and learning and practicing skills to manage emotions. It may include developing structure and flexibility around eating and self-care while learning how to respond differently to triggers over time.

Throughout treatment, we'll work at a pace that feels manageable. Progress doesn't mean perfection. Together, we'll come up with a definition of recovery that's based on your lived experience.

Eating and body-image concerns I commonly work with

Support is individualized and weight-neutral. Many clients come for binge eating patterns, milder or subclinical bulimia-spectrum behaviors, or ongoing body-image distress that keeps food feeling charged.

Binge Eating Disorder

Binge Eating Disorder often involves a repeated sense of loss of control around food, followed by guilt, shame, or secrecy — frequently without compensatory behaviors. Therapy focuses on what maintains the cycle (including diet mentality, emotional triggers, and body shame) and building more flexible, compassionate ways of relating to food and coping.

Mild Bulimia & Bulimia-Spectrum Patterns

Milder or less frequent bulimia-spectrum patterns — periods of restriction, feeling out of control around food, and compensatory behaviors that may not meet full diagnostic thresholds — still deserve careful, non-shaming care. We work at a pace that prioritizes medical safety when needed, interrupt all-or-nothing food rules, and address body image and emotion regulation so you are not stuck cycling alone.

Why work with me

Therapy here is collaborative and paced for your nervous system. Many clients choose private-pay or out-of-network care for privacy and continuity; out-of-network benefits often cover a meaningful portion of the cost, and insurance options remain available if that fits better.
