Collaborative, weight-neutral therapy for eating concerns, body image, and your relationship with food.
Eating and body-image concerns show up in Asheville within a wellness-forward culture that can quietly amplify food rules, comparison, and “shoulds” about health. In therapy, we take a weight-neutral, collaborative approach — not another plan to perfect. In-person sessions at 70 Woodfin Pl offer a private place to untangle food preoccupation, body dissatisfaction, and the social pressures that surround them in Western North Carolina.
Eating disorders and disordered eating are often about more than food. My approach to treatment is to address issues like stress, body image concerns, perfectionism, anxiety, depression, trauma, or substance concerns, along with addressing the eating disorder symptoms. If you are medically stable, outpatient therapy can be a highly effective space for healing. Because therapy requires a strong foundation of safety, our initial focus will be stabilizing active eating disorder behaviors, acute anxiety or substance use, or any immediate concerns that might get in the way of progress. If a higher level of care is ever needed, I will help you connect with those resources. Treatment begins with understanding the problems (which may span across a couple of sessions) and what you hope is different. Together, we’ll identify realistic goals to work on. I may recommend therapy in conjunction with working with a dietitian and/or a physician. My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and individualized. Drawing from CBT-E (Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), IPT, DBT, ACT, motivational interviewing, feminist, and Health at Every Size (HAES) principles, therapy may help with: Progress doesn’t mean perfection, and full recovery is possible. If you feel stuck, feel free to reach out.
Treatment approach is the same across locations; what differs is how we meet (in-person in Asheville or telehealth where licensed) and the local context you bring into the room.
Please note: In-person sessions are available in Asheville for Western North Carolina. Telehealth is offered for clients physically located in North Carolina, Washington, D.C., Virginia, or Colorado at the time of session.
