Anxiety therapy for adults in Washington, D.C. often intersects with high-stakes work in politics, law, policy, advocacy, or consulting — cultures that reward overfunctioning and leave little room to slow down. Via secure telehealth, we can meet from your apartment, office, or a private space between meetings, so treatment fits a District schedule without another commute across town.
Anxiety can look different for different people. For some, it may feel like excessive or uncontrollable worry. For others, it may show up as muscle tension, difficulty relaxing, overthinking, self-doubt, or getting caught in catastrophic thoughts that make it difficult to stay present. In therapy, we'll work together to understand how anxiety shows up in your life, identify the situations that trigger it, and explore what keeps it going. Rather than assuming what anxiety means for you, we'll start by defining the problem together. We'll explore your thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviors to better understand your experience. From there, we'll identify what you'd rather do more and less of, and develop practical strategies to help you move toward this new response. Therapy may include learning how anxiety affects the brain and body, reframing unhelpful thought patterns (without relying on forced positivity), gradually facing anxiety-provoking situations, building distress tolerance skills, and practicing new coping strategies. Sessions provide a supportive, non-judgmental space to process challenges, practice skills, and create a plan for applying those skills in everyday life. The goal of anxiety therapy is not to eliminate anxiety altogether, but to help you respond to it more effectively so that it has less control over your decisions, relationships, and quality of life.
Treatment approach is the same across locations; what differs is how we meet (in-person in Asheville or telehealth where licensed) and the local context you bring into the room.
Please note: Telehealth clients must be physically located in Washington, D.C. at the time of session.
